TILE360: Large Format Interactive Installation

TILE 360 was a large-format typographic installation installed in the gallery of John Burroughs School in St. Louis, MO, and designed to change over time and. Analog. Community. Interaction. Just a staple gun and 1,080 pieces of paper. I worked with Scott Gericke to transform the 30’ x 10’ curved wall creating a fluttering veneer of paper tiles.

We designed a 3-phase lifespan for this piece as well, calling Burroughs students to Reflect & Respond to the wall. With the help of the Burroughs community, I came to assembly and invited students to enter a dialogue with us, and reflect on what they did in 2023, and set an intention for what they want to do with 2024. Over time, Burroughs and University of Missouri–St. Louis design students played a role in interacting with and transforming the wall.  Article here.

This is a series of Stop Motion animations I made of installation in January and the three rounds of change the wall undergoes before the closing in June. Our name pays homage to the 360 tiles we stapled to the wall, each tile is 3-deep in colored paper, so pages can be ripped off to change the wall in new patterns.
